Symptoms

Check Engine Light on
Multiple warning lights
Vehicle may not start
No throttle response
Transmission in limp mode

Common Causes

ECM power/ground issue

HIGH

The ECM has lost power or ground, so it cannot communicate.

CAN bus wiring open/short

MEDIUM

The CAN bus wires to or from the ECM are damaged.

Failed ECM

MEDIUM

Internal ECM hardware failure prevents bus communication.

Blown ECM fuse

HIGH

A fuse supplying power to the ECM is blown.

Step-by-Step Diagnosis

1

Check ECM fuses

easy

Locate and test all fuses that supply power to the ECM. Replace any that are blown.

Tools:Fuse tester
2

Verify ECM power and ground

medium
